For the Love of Savanna

Archive for October 2006

Savanna and I would like to wish all of our RL and internet friends a happy and safe Halloween.

Savanna was quite surprised to see herself in the mirror. Oh, and check out her silver, shiny purse. She doesn’t go any where without her purse. If I try to take it from her she yells, “MINE”. She puts her prized cars, pill boxes, Pringle lids, leaves, and rocks in it. Tomorrow we will use it to collect candy for Savanna (mostly for me Laughing).

Savanna is officially Savanna Carolina McC—– and she is now recognized as my daughter in the U.S. We had our re-adoption court date on 10/3/2006. It was a moving experience, and a very joyous event. Of course I have pictures to share….

Re: the re-adoption process– my agency filled out most of the re-adoption paperwork and I had another home visit which included a social work court report. I filled out my share of the paperwork a month after being home with Savanna. It took 7 months to have my hearing (because the court employees didn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground). It should have only taken a month to get the hearing date once the paperwork was received by the Children’s Court.

If I had known I could visit Savanna early on in the adoption process, right after Family Court and right before entering PGN, I may have gone to visit her in Guatemala. When I found out I could visit, I was already in PGN and kept thinking, “I won’t be able to handle giving leaving her behind and I could ‘get out of hell’ anytime now”. If I had visited her, she would have entered the U.S. as an American citizen. (Some states don’t require a re-adoption process, California does).

Okay, okay, okay, here are our “Forever Family Day” pictures.

…. A day I will never forget (especially the very bad hair day in the first picture).

I just wanted you to know that I have much to say but am not able to do it because of computer problems. I’m hoping they will be fixed over the next couple of days.

I have NO idea what the actual problem is, but dealing with Verizon (DSL) hasn’t been a very good experience. As a matter of fact, it has been the most frustrating experience I’ve had since being in PGN! Please send good vibes that the problem is fixed SOON.

Please stop by Angel’s blog http://faithsjourney.spaces.live.com/PersonalSpace.aspx?vv=400 and share the joy. After many L-0-N-G months she is finally Zoe’s MOM.

Also, please go to Kate’s blog http://aspecialfamily.blogspot.com/ . Kate is new to blogging and I love her blog. Her writing skills are excellent and she has much relevant info to share.

Happy 10 months Savanna! Each month you get more and more beautiful. You are a ray of sunshine and I am so grateful to be your Mom.

You now have two bottom teeth and one upper incisor. It looks very funny when you laugh or smile. Of course, I try to make you laugh a lot of the time just so I can see those pretty 1/2 tooth stubs.

You are standing by yourself now and I have a hunch that in a week or two you will be walking all by yourself. Right now you walk by holding on to my one finger on one hand. I will have to admit, you look pretty drunk each step you take.

Granny Goose is teaching you about where your nose is and where her nose is and you think this is so doggone funny. Your Aunt Billy Goat is teaching you the word “duck” probably because everything that walks is a  “dog” to you.

You love to give open mouth kisses to your Granny, Patti, me, and your baby doll.

You have become pretty attached to your bunny blanket and wiggle your legs and arms in delight every time you see it. Your favorite toys are cars.

Diaper changing is still a HUGE challenge because you don’t like to stay still long enough for me to velcro your diapers (and I’m very fast too).

I have found a nice one-story house in a wonderful neighborhood for you. You will have a great time playing in the big back yard. The schools are excellent. To say the least, your Mom has been very busy packing and you are getting tired of it. You want ALL of her attention. Mom can’t wait to get settled into the new house so she can spend nearly all her time with you. (I move around July 13th).

I got an email from your fmom, Aura, yesterday. She is missing you terribly and so is Chrisopher, her 3 year old son. I don’t think she got the letter and pictures I sent to her 2 weeks ago. So I wrote her (with the help of freetranslation.com) another letter to let her know about how you are doing. I am so glad so many people love you and want to be part of your life.

I love you baby girl,

Mom
